Feb. 17, 2011 - After months of collaborative efforts, information sharing and public education, participation and review, local floodplain management officials with Fannin County, Texas and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are ready to release final flood insurance rate maps. The new Fannin County flood maps, which include all of the communities in Fannin County, become effective on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 giving homeowners, business owners and residential renters who haven't purchased flood insurance yet, time to get the best possible premiums to protect their property from potential flooding.

Feb. 17, 2011 - The Creative Arts Center will host auditions for the summer's Music in the Garden series Thursday, Feb. 24, starting at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in being a part of this six-week series is encouraged to call Barbara Reeves at 903-640-2196 and schedule an audition time. Times are filling up fast. The series will kick off their third year on May 5 at 7 p.m., with the concerts being held in the beautiful CAC Garden, located at 200 W. 5th Street in Bonham.

Feb. 10, 2011 - The Fannin County Family Crisis Center will be holding their 4th annual You Hold the Key fundraiser dinner Feb. 26 at the First Baptist Church Community Building in Bonham at 6 p.m. Donations are being accepted for items for the silent auction as well as live auction. Donations may be dropped at the FCFCC offices at the VA Hospital in Bonham or call for pick up.

Feb. 10, 2011 - The Creative Arts Center in Bonham is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibit of over 100 newly released works from the estate of 20th century artist Adolf A. Dehn. This sale and exhibit will feature lithographs, caseins, and watercolors. The opening receptions will be held Friday, March 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, March 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. Those interested are encouraged to mark their calendar for this once-in-a-lifetime exhibit never before seen in Texas.

Feb. 10, 2011 - Due to the uncertain weather conditions, the CORE Board has decided to reschedule the first Bonham Community Garden Organizational Gathering to Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., in the Elizabeth May Room at American Bank of Texas. All interested citizens of Bonham and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend and provide input and feedback. Organizers need to know who plans to actually garden a plot in the Community Garden or serve as a consultant, sponsor, or cheerleader.

Feb. 3, 2011 - Master Naturalist, Bois D' Arc chapter of Fannin County, would like to announce that there will be one more regular meeting before classes begin on March 17. If you would like to become a Certified Master Naturalist, registration for 2011 classes is now underway, and forms must be completed and turned in before the Feb. 17 meeting. There will be a total of thirteen classes and three field trips during the next year and a half. The fee for classes, class material, and to join the group is $70 dollars.

Feb. 3, 2011 - Fannin County residents interested in acquiring a Private Pesticide Applicators License will have the opportunity to take part in a training and test on April 19 at the Leonard Community Center at 118 West Collin Street (west side of the downtown square). Training will begin at 8 a.m. The training by Texas AgriLife Extension Agent, Roger Skipper should take roughly 3 to 4 hours. The test will be administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) representative. There is no cost for the training.

Feb. 3, 2011 - The Creative Arts Center Music Committee is gearing up for the third annual Music in the Garden spring concert series. Auditions will be Thursdays, Feb. 10 and 24, at 5:30 p.m. Musicians interested in auditioning should contact the Creative Arts Center at 903-640-2196 for an appointment as soon as possible. The concert series has featured jazz, country, gospel, rock and contemporary Christian music in years past. In addition, Fannin and Grayson County youth musicians were featured throughout the series last year and will be spotlighted again this year.

Feb. 3, 2011 - The Fannin County Master Gardeners will meet on Monday, Feb. 7, at noon in the Williams Building at the First Presbyterian Church located at the corner of Center and 9th Street.
