Thursday Club hears program from Lewis

May 12, 2011 - The Celeste Thursday Club met on April 28 at the Celeste Bank. Rachel Clark, Mary Ann Hooks, Allene Mize, Lynda Lou Thorp, Frances Armstrong, Patsy Whitworth, Sarah Andry, Judy Hubbard, Mary Jane James, Bethalyne Lyon, and Jo Willa Pierson attended. Frances Reynolds attended as an associate member. For roll call, members related the number of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren they had. Hubbard read the minutes and they were approved. After the treasurer, Whitworth gave her report, the Civic Committee suggested that $75 be given to the Celeste Elementary Library, $50 to Crawford Moore for art supplies for the Celeste High School, and $50 for Curly Combs for the upkeep of the Audie Murphy Garden in Celeste.

Holdridge Receives Scholarship

Chuck Holdridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Holdridge, a senior at Celeste High School recently received a four year $16,000 scholarship instituted by the Tenneco Corporation, of Durfield, Illinois.


Spring Sing scheduled for May 19

MAY 5, 2011 - A Spring Sing is scheduled for Thursday, May 19, at 7 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. This program involves fourth through eighth grade music classes, choirs, and individual group performances. A $1 donation will be taken at door for those who are able to support the Intermediate Honor Choirs. Popcorn and bottled water refreshments will also be available for sale. Should be a great musical night out for all!


Sophomore English class visits Greenville library to research genealogy project

MAY 5, 2011 - Rhonda Hackler's sophomore English class at Celeste High School made a visit to the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library in Greenville on April 7. The students have been working on a genealogy project, and the Greenville Public Library (GPL) is home to the Northeast Texas History and Genealogy Department.

CHS tennis team competes in district tournament in Prosper

MAY 5, 2011 - The Celeste High School Tennis Team competed at the district tennis tournament on Wednesday and Thursday, April 11-12, in Prosper. Individual awards were as follows: boys' singles - fourth place - Robert Vankirk (scores of 6-4, 1-6, 6-7 to O'Shel of Lindsay); and boys' doubles - fourth Place - Blake Garcia & Bryce Keifer (scores of 4-6, 7-6, 1-6 to Harp/Lance of Era).

FFA Booster Club has cake decorating contest fundraiser

MAY 5, 2011 - The Celeste FFA Booster Club will be having a cake decorating contest at the annual barbecue dinner and auction on Saturday, May 14. All cake entries are welcome. Just bake and decorate a cake and bring the cake to the Celeste High School Dining Hall by 5 p.m. The cake judging will begin at 6; winners will be announced at 6:30, and the auction will follow. Prizes will be given out for first, second and third place. All proceeds will benefit FFA students with Hunt County Fair projects and FFA seniors with scholarships.


Blue Devil Special Olympics relay team receives first in competition

MAY 5, 2011 - The Blue Devil 4x100 relay team of Rex Gentry, Faith Nix, Anna Spradling, Jose Spradling won first place in the Special Olympics in the Terrell ISD competition on April 20.

Individual medalists include the following: 100 meter dash - Faith Nix, first place; Jose Spradling, second place; Kaela Eason, second place; Rex Gentry, third place and Anna Spradling, third place; standing long jump - Faith Nix, first place; Rex Gentry, second place; Anna Spradling, second place; Jose Spradling, third place and Kaela Eason, third place.
