Don was born in Norfolk, VA. May 17, 1933, the son of the late Lewis Hall Sr. and Helen Hall. Don graduated from Kitty Hawk High School, Kitty Hawk, NC and attended Piedmont Bible College, Winston-Salem, NC. He served his country in the Korean conflict on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He served in churches in Cove, AR, San Simon, AZ, Blackjack, TX, Engelhard, NC, Powell, WY, and performed evangelistic work at many campgrounds. He was a Master Mason of the Doric Masonic Lodge No. 44 A.F. & A.M Chesapeake, VA.
Preceded in death by wife, Carol Absher, and daughter, Kathy. He is survived by daughters Karen and Donna Lynn, 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He is also survived by wife, Margy S., son Luke and wife Kristi of Bay City, TX. Although Margy’s children were not his own, he loved them as if they were. Preceded in death by Donna Benge and grandson Kash Lane Hall. Survived by David Holland and wife Jodi of OR, Diane Walsh and husband James of Howe, TX, Debra Wilcox and husband Rusty of Leonard, TX, Darylann Wilson and husband Mike of Cameron, OK, Dafne Stengel and husband Jerry of Sherman, TX, 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Pearl Katherine Doyle McLemore, 80 year old Leonard resident, were held Monday, Oct. 27th at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Leonard. Rev. Denny Gorena officiated. Mrs. McLemore died Wednesday, Oct. 22nd at the Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leonard and a member of the Celeste chapter of TOPS. She married Paul McLemore October 17, 1950 at Indianola, Okla.
She is survived by her son, Tim McLemore of Bonham, Tex.; granddaughters, Annette and Jennifer McLemore of Bonham, Tex.; sisters, Roxie and Peggy Doyle and Hester Payne, all of Loving, New Mexico; brothers, Leonard and A. C. Doyle, both of McAlester, Okla. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McLemore was preceded in death by her husband, Paul McLemore; daughter-in-law, Gladys McLemore; sister, Phyllis Doyle and brothers, Tom and Monroe Doyle.

Mr. Brewer passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 in Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.He was born on August 18, 1939 in Atoka, Okla., the son of the late Floyd David and Wilma Marie Morgan Brewer.
He was a retired engineer from the Sam Rayburn Memorial VA in Bonham and served in the US Army.

Pee Wee Partridge of Sherman graduated from Leonard High School in 1957. He was a great football player. Everyone loved to watch #22 play.
He was born in Leonard on Sept. 4, 1938 to Estelle and Fay Partridge. He had three sisters, Brenda Jarvis of Rockwall, Barbara Tolbert and Carolyn Wright, both of Leonard. He retired from Johnson and Johnson after 38 years. He really enjoyed his retirement.
When Pee Wee went home to heaven, he was fishing with his wife, Linda, at Calico Park, Ark., where he loved to go and did go almost every month.
We will really miss Pee Wee until we see him again.

Jason was born on August 25, 1970 in Dalhart, Tex. to Bill and Anita (Skinner) Richardson.He graduated from Whitewright schools in 1989 and earned his BA in Accounting from East Texas State University in 1992.Jason later earned his law degree from the Texas Tech School of Law in 1998.Jason was a founding partner with the firm of Graber and Richardson LLP in Sherman.He was also a Certified Public Accountant, having practiced accounting several years prior to becoming an attorney.Jason and Stephanie Shaffer were married on May 16, 1992 in Sherman.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the board of directors for the Child Guidance Center.

He was a member of the American Bantam Association, the American Poultry Association, the Leonard Kiwanis, the Leonard Jaycees and the Masonic Lodge.

Robert Daniel “Danny” Saye passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 in Santa Monica, Calif. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Leonard, Tex. at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been setup at First United Methodist Church in Leonard in his name.
He was born March 3, 1962 in Quantico, Va., a beloved son of Dick Saye of Leonard and Mary Dee O’Dell-Sullam of Santa Monica.
Danny was a graduate of Celeste High School, Celeste, Tex. He resided in Greenville, Tex. and was a local mechanical entrepreneur until an accident in 2001 caused disabilities that restricted his career.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Ortho Morgan Squad #17, Greenville. He was awarded S.A.L. of the year in 1999-2000. He became Commander and was awarded the Citation of Achievement for Outstanding Endeavors in Accomplishment of Americanism and Membership 2002-2003. He was recognized for his untiring dedication to the American Legion Family and the Children’s Miracle Network in 2002.
Danny is survived by his father, Dick, and wife Odile of Leonard; mother, Mary Dee O’Dell-Sullam and husband Jules of Santa Monica; brother, Richard Saye and wife Delinda of Greenville; stepbrother, John Ayad and wife Damaris of Leonard; stepsister, Nancy Kinkade and husband Travis of Celeste; stepsister, Maureen Stone and husband Victor of University Park, Maryland; stepsister, Lisa Taklender and husband Richard of Woodland Hills, Calif., and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Danny was a friend to many and a lover of life that always tried to help others around him. He will be dearly missed.

Major.He later worked in construction operating heavy equipment.He also worked as a carpenter and built homes for Habitat.He died Sunday, August 17th at his home in Lebanon, Missouri.

Alma Elizabeth Mullendore completed her life peacefully at age 95 on Aug. 15, 2008, after a brief illness. She was born in Bonham, Tex., on Oct. 23, 1912 to Charles and Nora Carter Minchey. She was predeceased in 1997 by Aulton, her husband of 65 years. She lived the past six years in Williamstown, MA, with daughter, Martha (Mrs. M. John Storey), where she maintained her independent lifestyle while enjoying the loving care and presence of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had lived previously in Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, California, New Jersey, Connecticut and Missouri.
Elizabeth found great joy in homemaking, sewing, cooking, crafts, gardening, decorating and parenting – skills widely admired by family and friends. Her southern grace and practical approach to life shone through each day. “If there’s enough for one, there’s enough for all,” she would say as another half dozen people showed up unexpectedly for a family dinner. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Williamstown, MA.
She is survived by four children: Charles and wife Eleanor of Mabou, Nova Scotia; Margie and husband Dale Odom of Colorado Springs; Joe of Macon, Ga.; and Martha; thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Cremation has taken place and burial will be beside her husband in the Leonard, Tex. cemetery. A family memorial gathering will follow at a later date.

Mrs. Rodgers was born Aug. 13, 1913 in Ocheleta, Okla., the daughter of William Wesley and Dora Ellen Kyler Evans. She moved with her family from Oklahoma to Odessa, Tex. in 1945, where she worked in sales for more than 30 years. She died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 at the Leonard Manor in Leonard, Tex. She married Asa Lloyd Rodgers in Tulsa, Okla. on Dec. 15, 1933. He preceded her in death in March of 1994. She married Joe Sequiche Morris on March 20, 1998 in Randolph, Tex. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2005. She was a member of the Randolph Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Mickey Rodgers and Janet Rodgers Swinney of Mesa, Ariz., and Jane Rodgers Dodson and her husband, Charlie, of Trenton, Tex.; grandchildren, Charla Dodson Pennaccchia of Sherman, Tex., Ted Dodson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Latayne Swinney Beauford, Asa Ron Swinney and Ray Swinney, all of Mesa, Ariz.; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Don Myers of Rogers, Ark. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

David Gerald Riley, age 33, of Celeste, lost his battle with cancer on Monday, August 25, 2008.? Mr. Riley passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 24, 1975 in Garland, Texas to Benny Gerald Riley and Mary Jane Harris Riley.? After graduating from high school, Mr. Riley had two sons, Cody and Cory, and worked as a truck driver to provide for his family.? His life was his children.? He loved to take them hunting, fishing, camping, and most importantly to church.? He was an active member of the Cross Pointe Baptist Church.

Robert Daniel “Danny” Saye passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 in Santa Monica, Calif. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Leonard, Tex. at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been setup at First United Methodist Church in Leonard in his name.
He was born March 3, 1962 in Quantico, Va., a beloved son of Dick Saye of Leonard and Mary Dee O’Dell-Sullam of Santa Monica.
Danny was a graduate of Celeste High School, Celeste, Tex. He resided in Greenville, Tex. and was a local mechanical entrepreneur until an accident in 2001 caused disabilities that restricted his career.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Ortho Morgan Squad #17, Greenville. He was awarded S.A.L. of the year in 1999-2000. He became Commander and was awarded the Citation of Achievement for Outstanding Endeavors in Accomplishment of Americanism and Membership 2002-2003. He was recognized for his untiring dedication to the American Legion Family and the Children’s Miracle Network in 2002.
Danny is survived by his father, Dick, and wife Odile of Leonard; mother, Mary Dee O’Dell-Sullam and husband Jules of Santa Monica; brother, Richard Saye and wife Delinda of Greenville; stepbrother, John Ayad and wife Damaris of Leonard; stepsister, Nancy Kinkade and husband Travis of Celeste; stepsister, Maureen Stone and husband Victor of University Park, Maryland; stepsister, Lisa Taklender and husband Richard of Woodland Hills, Calif., and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Danny was a friend to many and a lover of life that always tried to help others around him. He will be dearly missed.

Mrs. Watterson was born Feb. 5, 1934 at Trenton, Tex. Her parents were Willie Edgar “Ed” and Lucy Lee Starnes McCartney. She was a seamstress and a member of the Baptist church. She married Calvin Louis Watterson March 27, 1959 at Durant, Okla. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1988.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Johnny Bates of Leonard; son, Randy Watterson of Wolfe City, Tex.; sisters, Melba Jo Lucas of Randolph and Sheria Ann Young of Leonard; brother, Eddie Dean McCartney of Whitewright, Tex.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Mendez of Bailey, Tex. and Miranda Watterson of Wolfe City. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a very dear friend, Mary Trusty.

Funeral services for Bill Hocutt, 48, of Celeste who passed away late Thursday night, Aug. 28, 2008 at his residence, were held Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Lynch Funeral Chapel in Greenville. Brother James Ralson officiated. Visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m.
He was born Oct. 6, 1959 to George and Louise Hocutt in Dallas, Tex. Bill worked as a meter reader at the family business, Hocutt, Inc. in Dallas. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Celeste. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. In recent years he served the community as president of the Lions Club. He was better known as “UnkHiram” to those who enjoyed his writings in the Leonard Graphic and the Celeste Tribune. Mr. Hocutt has been very involved in the Republican Party.Supporting others through local political avenues brought him great joy.
Bill was a family man, from researching his family’s genealogy to spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always there to offer a helping hand.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-two years, Darlene Hocutt of Celeste; daughters and son-in-law, Crystal Nicole and Randal Howard of Blue Ridge and Ashley Michelle Hocutt of Greenville; parents and step-mother, George and Martha Hocutt of Wills Point, Louise Hocutt of Quinlan; brother and step brother, Jerry Hocutt, Mike and Cindy Hammer; sister, Terrie Hocutt; two grandchildren, “Billy” William David Howard and James “Hippie” Raymond Sain Jr.

August 14, 2008 - Michael Carlton McCreary, the baby of his family, age 5, of Lewisville, Tex., passed away Thursday; August 7, 2008 at home in his mother’s arms.Michael was born on September 30, 2002 in Carrollton, Tex., to Mike and Andrea McCreary.He loved playing “Tee Ball”, school, his family and friends. Michael always squeezed in as much fun as possible. Playing air guitar and dancing to his favorite tunes, he inspired others to enjoy every day more. August 14, 2008 - Mrs. Linda L. Smith, age 64, of Leonard, Tex. passed away August 9, 2008, in Sherman, Tex. She was born on December 6, 1943, in San Antonio to Hansford Alton and Gladys Lorene (Swatsell) Love. On July 30, 1962, she married Cletice Wayne Smith in McKinney, Tex. Mrs. Smith was a retired rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She was also a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church in McKinney. Mrs. Smith loved to show off her yard work and was a very loving and involved mother and grandmother.

August 14, 2008 - Sherman- God called one of his favorite sons home on August 9, 2008.George Edward Jones, 77, went peacefully and eagerly to his Heavenly Home.
He was born on March 3, 1931 to John Henry Jones and Edna Marie Jamieson Jones on a farm near Leonard, Fannin County, Texas.He grew up in and around Leonard, attended and graduated school there.

Melba was born September 14, 1926 in Bonham, daughter of Gus Thomas Sudderth and Martie Sudderth Rolen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus Thomas Sudderth and Martie Sudderth Rolen; a son, Gary Wayne Moore and a brother, Ray Thomas Sudderth of Leonard.

Mrs. Latimer is survived by her son, Terry Latimer of Trenton, Tex.; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Randy Treadway of Leonard, Tex.; brother, Tim Dobbs of Rockwall, Tex.; sister, Lois Smith of Pottsboro, Tex.; grandchildren, Brandon, Beverli and Ted Latimer, Regan and Haylea Treadway and a great-grandchild, Reagan Latimer.

July 24, 2008 - Virtuous wife, loving mother, adoring “Nannie”, faithful Christian, and devoted teacher Helen Corine Huffman Tillerson went to be with her Lord July 20, 2008.
Born on October 3, 1920 in Electra, Tex. to Fitzhugh Lee and Tompie (Harvey) Huffman, she graduated from Electra High School and from North Texas State Teacher’s College with a BS degree.Later, she received her MS from East Texas State University.On July 20, 1941 she wed her beloved G.W. Tillerson in Waurika, Okla.; they were blessed with 67 years of marriage.Hospitality flowed endlessly as friends and family gathered to share one of her delicious meals.A member of Bethel Baptist Church, Celina, Texas, she taught her “ladies in waiting” Sunday School class for many years.
She taught school throughout Texas for 39 years.Students in Celeste, Melissa, Christoval, Sterling City, Electra, Iowa Park, Arp, and Prosper benefitted from her classroom attention and even more from the love she shared outside the classroom.Bookkeeping, typing, shorthand, English, and general business skills learned under “Mrs. T” helped many students decide to pursue business careers; even more became teachers because of her influence.Her typing and shorthand students won numerous district and regional UIL titles and some state championships.She & G.W. continue to support students through scholarships.
Helen is survived by her husband, G.W. Garry Don Mead was born March 21, 1940 in Leonard, Texas to Webb Watson Mead and Eva Dean Murrell Mead.He departed this world on July 7, 2008.Garry moved to Ft. Worth as a young boy and took great pride in his North Side roots.He graduated from North Side High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Arlington State College, and completed his Master’s coursework in Psychology at TCU while also serving in the United States Air Force.Garry then had a long and rewarding career as a Rehabilitation Counselor and retired from both the Texas Rehabilitation Commission (Vocational Rehabilitation Division) and also from the Texas Commission for the Blind. Garry’s love of old classic cars, the cowboy lifestyle, Civil War history and golf filled his retirement.He was a strong, independent person, passionately loyal to family and friends, and always cherished their love.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Brenda Mullen. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Alissa and Ron McCain; brother-in-law, Glen Mullen; niece, Melyn Thompson and her children, Tyler Mead and Harleigh Kay; and other family and friends who will miss him dearly, including Melissa Thomas, devoted assistant; and lifelong friends, Robert and Sandra Wortham, whose unselfish love was truly one of Garry’s greatest blessings.
John Piney Oden Jr. died at the age of 84 on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Medical Center of Plano. He died courageously, and was surrounded by his dear family that he loved so much.
Graveside services with military honors were held on Saturday, June 27, 2008 at College Mound Cemetery in Terrell, Texas.
Johnny was born February, 29, 1924 in Palestine, Texas. He was the son of Effie Lucille Bishop Oden and John Piney Oden Sr.He was a member of the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. He was a pharmacist mate, and served his country in World War II.
He married his true love, Mildred Louise Marshall Oden, on August 20, 1946. They were to celebrate their 62nd anniversary this August.
Johnny and Mildred had two sons, John Steven Oden and Richard Gregory Oden. Their two boys married and brought them much pride and joy, including many grandchildren and great-grandchildren for them to love and spoil.
Johnny, also known as Granddad, was the leader of the Oden clan, and was respected and loved by the entire family. He was a good friend to many, and a loving husband to Mildred. He was also admirably strong, and lived a long, active life in spite of many serious health issues. His desire to be with his family kept him going, and the pride he had in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was very great.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Ray, sisters Imogene and Mary Ann, and nephew William Woodward. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Oden of Lucas; his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Gini Oden of Emory, and Greg and Margie of Leonard; grandson Todd Oden and his wife, Kim, and their children, Madelyn, Parker and Morgan Oden; grandson Kyle Oden and his daughter, Abigail; granddaughter Bethany and her husband, Charles Russell, and their children, Ashley, Ryan, Arianna and Caden; grandson Greg Oden; and granddaughters Chelsey Oden and Cassie Oden. He is also survived by a sister, Lois Elaine Taffer, and many loved nieces and nephews.

She was born August 29, 1921 in Broken Bow, Okla., the daughter of Dick and Lela Stiles Oehler. She attended elementary school in Broken Bow and high school in Sulphur, Okla. She then attended East Central State University in Ada, Okla., earning a B.S. degree in Speech. She married Arthur H. Bundy in Pauls Valley, Okla., on Dec. 4, 1975.
A devoted Methodist, she served as a missionary teacher in the Yucca Valley of California and on the foreign field in Singapore. After retiring to Broken Bow, she moved to Sherman in 1998.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Surviving are a step-son, three nieces, many cousins and her special friend and caregiver, Felton Cash of Leonard and a host of other friends.

Bob was born on January 10, 1928 in Leonard, Tex. to Carl and Mable May (Knowles) Hill. He was in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.Bob enjoyed fishing from sunup to sundown every day that he was able to fish.He was the best handy man ever and he loved to go dancing with his sweetheart, Dee.Bob never missed a Texas Rangers ballgame on television and he was also a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

June 26, 2008 - Funeral services for Jesse R. Hiatt, 80 year old Leonard resident, will be held Thursday, June 26th at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Leonard. Rev. Morris Robbins and Rev. Dewey Watson will officiate. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25th at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Leonard. He died Sunday, June 22nd at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman.
Mr. Hiatt was born August 27, 1927 in Delmar, Iowa. His parents were Roscoe Ira and Opal Leona Peyton Hiatt. He married Dorothy Jean Dillard Dec. 8, 1951 in Bonham, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leonard. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. He retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of service.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Mike Wood of Leonard; sister, Alice Walker of Bailey; two granddaughters, Stephanie Wood of Plano and Lisa Wood of San Marcos, Texas; brother-in-law, Pat Massey of Del Rio, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hiatt and his parents, Roscoe I. and Opal L. Hiatt.

June 5, 2008 - Lena I. Murden, 95, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away May 29, 2008, in Weslaco with her family at her bedside. She was born in Leonard, Tex., Dec. 20, 1912 to Thomas Jefferson Coonrod and Lena Mae Rich Coonrod. She married Albert Murden on Oct. 7, 1939. She was the owner of Lena Murden’s Flowers in Elsa and served the valley for many years.
Lena loved family gatherings and was a collector of stuffed and ceramic elephants. She also enjoyed working in her garden and especially her flower beds. She was a 60-year member of the First Baptist Church of Edcouch and enjoyed her Sunday school class.
Lena was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert, two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her loving sons, Richard Murden and Gerald Murden and wife Beverly; grandchildren, Dale Murden, Shelly Dangerfield, Jenna Seale, Tricia Castellanos, Stephen Murden and Russell Murden; eight great grandchildren.

He was born June 13, 1917 in Randolph, Tex., the son of Alton Tony Woodruff and Fannie Pearl Russell Woodruff. He married Kathryn Blackwell on Nov. 13, 1942 in Leonard. He worked for the Texas Highway Department and was a member of the Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church of Greenville. He served as a deacon for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Woodruff of Greenville; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Valerie Woodruff of Greenville; sisters, Sue Anderson of Randolph and Billie Hawkins of Hurst; brothers, Mac Woodruff and Pete Woodruff, both of Trenton and Jack Woodruff of Hurst; grandchildren, Amber Dever, Adam and Austin Woodruff, all of Greenville.

Graveside services for Ola Christine Childers, 88, of Bandera, Tex., formerly of Leonard, will be held Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Emory City Cemetery at 2 p.m. Mrs. Childers died Sunday, May 18, 2008 in San Antonio.
She was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Glenwood, Ark., to John Cleveland and Georgia Lou Payte Forga. She married Albert Childers in Greenville, Tex., on Sept. 16, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1993.

T. “Dode” and Buena Friddle Davis.She lived in Tyler most of her life and had lived in Longview the past eight years.She retired from the Smith County Clerk’s Office, and also worked for the Smith County Public Health District in the vital statistics department.She was past president and past vice-president of the American Legion Auxiliary, District 3.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dale Davis and sister, Gladys Davis Atkisson.
She is survived by her daughter Marla Prudhomme of Tyler; sons, Ray Sumrow and Kevin Sumrow both of Tyler; brother, Glen Davis of Mt. April 10, 2008 - Mary Virgean LaFavers went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. She was at her daughter’s house in Celeste, Tex. She had suffered a heart attack on Friday, March 28, and just been released from the hospital on Tuesday. She was born on Sept. 4, 1929 to Sylvester Wade Myers and Pearl Deatherage. She moved to Celeste at the age of 14 and had lived here for 64 years. She married Haskell LaFavers on Oct. 3, 1947. She was a dedicated wife and stood by his side through a long illness until his death in May 2003. In the beginning of their marriage she worked for Henson Kickernick and J. R. Love Company as a seamstress. When her first child was born she became a full time wife and mother. In 1959 she and Haskell began a long career as dairy farmers and she spent the next 35 years milking cows twice a day and assisting him in all aspects of farm work while taking care of three small children. She was always a room mother for her children’s classes, attending their school events.
Virgean was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend to many. She positively touched everyone she came in contact with and she will be greatly missed. She always had a smile and a good attitude. She was known for wearing one of her many hats to church and wherever and whenever she wanted to dress up. Also for carrying her cane which she dressed up with ribbons according to the season. She stood up for what she believed in and worked for many causes throughout her life. In the 1960s and 1970s she was on the Hunt County Red Cross Board and went door to door collecting money for both the Red Cross and the March of Dimes. She was a member of the Celeste PTA and served as president for 6 years. She was honored to be selected as an honorary lifetime member in 1980. She served on the Hunt County Council PTA Board for 6 years. She was an active member of the Celeste Beautification Committee and the Housing and Urban Development Board for several years. She volunteered at the Celeste Public Library. Most of all she was an active and beloved member of the Celeste Church of Christ for 57 years.
She is survived by her son, James LaFavers and wife Lyla of Lavon, Tex.; her daughter Kathryn Claxton and husband Roger of Celeste, Tex. and her son, David LaFavers and wife Sondra of Celeste, Tex. She is survived by six grandchildren, the light of her life, Rex Claxton, Rachel Claxton, Rebecca Claxton, Megan LaFavers, Tyler LaFavers all of Celeste and Heath LaFavers of Lavon, Tex. She is also survived by one brother John Myers and his wife Sue of Celeste and one sister Wanda Glawson and her husband Joe of San Antonio, Tex. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many, many, friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 4, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Celeste Church of Christ. Officiating the service was Mr. A. C. Quinn. Burial followed at Celeste Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lannie Steen, Wylie Easley, Alex Cawthon, Bob Richison, Bud Thacker and Mark Coles.
