Tigers suffer tough loss in Peaster Tournament

December 17, 2009 - Thursday night at the Peaster Tournament the Leonard Tigers had a tough loss. Final score was Leonard 36 and Peaster 69. Leonard started off in the first quarter scoring in double digits along with Peaster, but was behind at the end of the first quarter and never caught up. Peaster scored 18 points to Leonards 13 and scored another 17 points before half time while Leonard languished and scored only eight, bringing the half time score to 21 for Leonard and 35 for Peaster.

Half time came and went and Leonard still could not find the steam that would bring a win home. In the third period of play Leonard scored seven while Peaster put up another 14 points. Peaster had their best scoring quarter in the fourth with 20 points scored while Leonard scored another seven points.

Aaron Moreland and James Arnold were the best scorers with seven each.

In game two of the Peaster Tourney Leonard played against Lipan on Dec. 11, the Leonard Tigers won with a final score of 58 to 54 with Lipan sneaking up from behind to almost tie the game. In the first quarter Leonard scored 24 while Lipan scored seven. The score was reversed for the second quarter with Lipan scoring 15 and Leonard only scored 10, bringing the half time score to Leonard 34 and Lipan 22. The second half, third quarter, Lipan outscored Leonard again 10 to eight and the fourth quarter also proved Lipan to be the better scorers with 22 points added to their side while Leonard added 16. With Lipan outscoring Leonard in three out of four innings, the first quarter of play was pretty important to the final win for Leonard.

Matt Williams scored 21, Aaron Moreland scored 10, James Arnold scored seven, Brad Moulder and Tyler Turner scored six each, Will Cowan scored five and Christian Lyday scored three.

In game three of the Peaster Tourney Leonard faced Springtown in a contest where Leonard outscored Springtown in the first quarter but fell behind for the other three periods of play, giving Springtown the win at 67 and Leonard 59.

Leonard scored 16 points in the first quarter while Springtown scored 13. Leonard matched their first quarter scoring while Springtown scored 24 points, putting Springtown in the lead at half 37 to 32.

By the end of the third quarter Springtown had added another 18 while Leonard added 13, giving Springtown a 10 point lead, 55 over 45. Leonard scored 14 in the fourth but their scoring was not enough to close the gap since Springtown also scored 12. The final score was Springtown 67 and Leonard 59.

High scorers for Leonard were Aaron Moreland and Matt Williams with 15 points each. James Arnold and Christian Lyday also had a matched score of eight each. Brad Moulder added five, Christian Vaughn added four, Brad Hartline and Tyler Turner added two each.
