
December 17, 2009 - The Leonard City Council and Mayor met on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. for the December council meeting, taking action on one item of old business and a few items of new business.
In old business action, on a recommendation from the Beautification Committee to clean up the overpass on Hwy. 78 and have concrete poured on both sides, was tabled due to an inquiry to a landscaper who is willing to give suggestions and help the committee figure out a better solution for the area.
In new business, the council approved bid proposals for the 2006 TxCDBG Paving Project which includes Oak, Poplar and Travis Streets and also approved bid proposals for 2007 TxCDBG which include Cedar and Houston Streets.
Other new business included the release of Engineering concepts and Design, LP as city engineers and approved alignment with MLA consulting, LLC as city engineers. City engineers who have worked with the City of Leonard over several years have changed companies they are associated with, thereby requiring this change to keep them as the Leonard City engineers.
George Butch Henderson brought the council and update on the Groundwater Conservation Board. A meeting is to be scheduled in the near future with persons from Grayson and Fannin County who have been appointed to serve in this capacity.
The council approved city holidays for the 2009-2010 year, which began in October. Paid holidays for city employees will be or were Veterans Day-Nov 11, Thanksgiving-Nov 26 and 27, Christmas-Dec. 24 and 25, New Years Day on Jan. 1, Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 18, Presidents Day on Feb. 15, Good Friday on April 2, Memorial Day on May 31, Independence day on July 5, Labor Day on Sept. 6 and one floating holiday.
