Senator Bob Deuell

Deuell to seek third term

December 10, 2009 - Earlier today, State Senator Bob Deuell (R-Greenville) filed official paperwork with the Republican Party of Texas and will be a candidate for re-election in 2010. First elected in 2002, Deuell will be seeking a third full term in the Texas Senate.

"I have filed the necessary papers and am officially seeking re-election," Deuell said. "I'm proud of my record and proud of the support that I have had during my time in the Senate."

"I look forward to seeing everyone on the campaign trail in the next few months."

In addition to filing, the Deuell campaign also announced on Thursday that Sen. Deuell had so far secured the official endorsement of the following Republican County Chairs in Senate District Two:

Dallas County - Chairman Jonathan Neerman; Rockwall County - Chairman Bill Broderick; Rains County - Chairman Rusty Basham; Delta County - Chairman Derrell London; Hunt County - Chairman David Hale, Kaufman County - Chairman Bill Baker and Fannin County - Chairman Joe Ward.

During his four legislative sessions, Senator Deuell has amassed an impressive record.

As a continuous member of the Senate Finance Committee since 2004, Senator Deuell has worked hard for sound, conservative fiscal policy. As a result of this fiscal discipline, the Texas Senate again passed a balanced budget in 2009 while giving a tax cut to our small businesses.

Senator Deuell also currently serves as Vice-Chair to both the Senate State Affairs Committee and the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services.

In his four legislative sessions, Sen. Deuell has passed over 175 pieces of legislation dealing with every major issue in Texas. Bills passed by Sen. Deuell included measures to reduce property taxes, bring about greater efficiencies in state government, strengthen our DWI laws and promote economic development. One of Deuell's most notable pieces of legislation was the landmark "Jessica's Law," which contained some of the strongest punishments in the country for child predators.

A leader on conservative issues, Senator Deuell has a 100% pro-life rating, and is A+ rated by the National Rifle Association. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors for the Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute.

During his legislative career, Deuell has been honored with many awards and recognitions for his service. They include the "Crime Fighter of the Year" award by the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, "Outstanding Senator" by the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters, and the "Patient Advocacy Award" from the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. In addition, Sen. Deuell was named one of "Texas Medicine's Best" by the Texas Medical Association.

Also, Senator Deuell was named one of Texas' Ten Best Legislators by Texas Monthly Magazine in 2007, and was again recognized by Texas Monthly in 2009.
