School board turns deaf ear to horn request

December 3, 2009 - The Leonard Independent School Board met on Tuesday evening, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. The board members were introduced to each LHS and LJH student who showed animals in the Fannin County Fair and each student showed their ribbons, banners and buckles. Winners from Leonard include Blaine Alexander, Taylor Conti, Miranda Young, Ian Mauldin, Tanner Young, Matthew Weaver, Spencer Roberts, Riley Bonds, John Alexander and Megan Evans.

Steve Davis from Morgan, Davis, LLP presented the 2008-2009 school district financial audit report. Davis gave a thorough report and it will be on the December agenda for approval by the board.

A School Health Advisory Council must be established to assist the district in ensuring that local community values and health issues are reflected in the districts health education instruction. Members of this council include a parent, the school and one student representative. School representatives are Nancy Zachary, Pam McCarley, Corey Savage, Linda Fisher, Brad Maxwell and Sherry Cooper. Parent representatives are Jamie Watson, Stacy Morris, Beverly Brian, Pam Speir, BK Steib, Melissa Barton and John Kay. The student representative is Aaron Moreland.

Dwain Campbell gave the board members a tour of the elementary school and gym renovation areas.

Buster Sudderth made a motion to limit the use of air horns at football games to cut down on noise for nursing home residents. The motion died for lack of a second.
