December 3, 2009 - November City Council meeting found the council handling several items of new business and approved the amended fund budget for 2008.
Items of new business discussed were as follows: approved the ordinance allowing city council members to participate in a city employee insurance program, appointed Donde Womack and Andy McAngus to the City of Leonard Beautification Committee, accepted a recommendation from the Beautification Committee to take action to clean up the over pass, accepted a recommendation from the Beatification Committee to beautify the square as in installing flower beds and trimming trees, approved the recommendation from the Beautification Committee for the city to enforce ordinances in place, and received an update from Butch Henderson from the Red River Groundwater Conservation District.
The new Beautification Committee is hard at work with plans on how to beautify Leonard. Besides the action taken in the City Council meeting, which gives them the go ahead for some plans, the committee would also like to take the opportunity to encourage citizens to keep their areas mowed and picked up from trash and debris. While most of the plans instigated in this meeting will take several months to complete, mowing and picking up trash/leaves on your property is something each citizen can and should do for the town to look better for the upcoming Christmas Parade and festivities.
