His mother-in-law, Gladys Linton, was in the hospital very sick and has since passed away. We will miss Gladys here at Celeste very much; she is a long-time resident here.</description>

<description>June 19, 2008 - The Leonard Tigers girl’s team won first place in East Fork Pony Softball play and end of season tournament, finishing the season undefeated. They went on to be undefeated also in their first tournament after regular season play. These Leonard Tigers young ladies became the Indian Creek All Stars and competed in the All Star Invitational Tournament held in Cleburne on Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15.</description>

<title>Chamber June luncheon</title>
<description>June 12, 2008 - The Leonard Chamber of Commerce met at the First United Methodist Church for the June luncheon to discuss business. The 129th Annual Leonard Picnic to be held on July 17, 18 and 19 was the main topic of discussion. The theme for the picnic will be “Sweet Home Leonard, TX” with T-shirts and caps to be on sale later in the month. The chamber voted to pay the $2300 balance which was left after American Bank and First National Bank of Trenton, Leonard branch made their donations, to engage live entertainment for Friday and Saturday night at the park to begin at 8 p.m. each evening. A fund raiser for funds to restore a 1943 fire truck for the Leonard Preservation League will be going on during the picnic, as well as funds being raised for the Fannin County courthouse restoration. All clubs, churches and organizations are encouraged to make a plan to contribute to the picnic in some way. The more activities for everyone the better everyone will enjoy it. Brandi Savage was recognized and presented a Lamar Medal from the Ashley Lodge for her outstanding work in the district. Receiving five year service pins were: Dwain Campbell, Greg Connelly, Gloria Garmon, Junie Green, Bethani Knight, Kristi Malone, Amy NeSmith, Sherie Phillips, Beryl Sears, Judy Williams, and Pam Winkler. Receiving ten year service pins were Pam McCarley, Johnny McKinney and Shelley Murphy. Jeannie Craton was awarded a 15 year service pin and Jana Wood a 20 year service pin. Decisions made included the hiring of three teachers, approving student handbooks for each campus, voting to engage insurance services for students for the 2008-09 school year, approving continued coverage of worker’s compensation through Claims Administrative Services, noting resignations of four staff persons, voting to implement mandatory drug testing for all students in extracurricular activities, raising the salary schedules for custodian and cafeteria staff throughout the LISD and voting to move funds to add to grant monies for installation ofmore security cameras to be installed on LISD campuses.</description>

<title>Senior Class of 2012 becomes LHS freshmen</title>
<description>June 5, 2008 - Commencement exercises for the eighth graders graduating from Leonard Junior High began at 7 p.m. in the LHS cafetorium with Beryl Sears and Larry LaFavers on hand to honor the students who had completed nine years of studies. Andrew Burnes offered the invocation followed by April Nichole Jones giving the Salutatorian address. Verity Paige Christella Cox presented the Valedictorian address. Sears presented many awards to the graduates, beginning with three perfect attendance awards to Dario Gomez, Andrew Burnes and Connie Guajardo. Top 10 student’s awards were presented to Cody Donihoo, Kade Speir, Ryce Massey, Cory Martin, Rosa Gomez, Matthew Fisher, Taylor Conti, Andrew Burnes, April Jones and Verity Cox. Students making the A/B honor roll for the year were Kade Speir, Ryce Massey, Cory Martin, Rosa Gomez, Matthew Fisher, and Taylor Conti.
