Caddo Grasslands feral hog hunt results in 137 captured

March 17, 2011 - During the feral hog hunt in the county recently, a total of 137 hogs were harvested. Of those, 55 were given away to people requesting them, the rest were either utilized by the owner for personal use or sold in Windom to the State Buying Facility. A total of 12 teams signed up and three separate individuals. Winners were as follows: first place ($1000) - Brad Phillips of Telephone, second place ($750) - Alan Andrew of Honey Grove, and thirdplace ($500) - Andy Moss of Chicota. Daily prize winners were Brad Phillipsof Telephone, Holly McCutchin, of Dallas, Austin McKinney of Lewisville, Michael Sylkatis ofMcKinney, Ray Lopez, of Farmers Branch, Frank Payne of Chicota, Alan Andrew of Honey Grove, and Steve Bennett of Trenton.

 

Master Gardeners hosting seventh annual expo

March 17, 2011 - The Fannin County Master Gardeners' seventh annual 2011 Garden, Lawn & Home Expo is set for Saturday, March 26, from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Bonham Civic Center, located at 1000 W 5th St. in Bonham, on the corner of State Highways 121 and 56.

 

Grammar joined "Sea of Red" in Austin for legislative day

March 10, 2011 - Last week Melanie Grammar, Club President of the Fannin County Republican Women, traveled to Austin to join approximately 900 women from across the state for a Legislative Day sponsored by the Texas Federation of Republican Women. Clad in "Republican Red' clothing, Grammar represented the Fannin County Republican Women at this biennial event.

Grammar took this opportunity to visit the offices of Senator Bob Deuell and Representative Larry Phillips. Texas Republican women have been especially vocal in support of Voter Photo ID measures, and have urged lawmakers to promote border security and support fair and reasonable re-districting.

 

Children's Art Contest to benefit children, deadline March 31

March 10, 2011 - It's time for the annual children's art contest hosted by the Fannin County Children's Center. The local nonprofit organization that helps abused and neglected children is seeking artwork from area children and youth.

Two winning entries which best illustrate the theme "Open Your Heart" will be reproduced on cards to help the agency raise funds to provide advocacy, counseling and other critical support services for the abused and neglected children of Fannin County. Winners will also be awarded special ribbons and prizes courtesy of Dr. Jim and Valerie Tarpley.

 

Organizers planning for Jacob's Run in April

March 10, 2011 - The Jacob Cangemi Memorial Scholarship would like to announce the fourth annual Jacob's Run which includes a Competitive 5K Run and 3K Walk for Fun. The event will be held April 30 starting and finishing in the downtown square of Trenton.

"We had another successful event last year. We had returning and new sponsors, 100+ participants and raised over $5,800 to support this very worthy cause," said Race Director and Co-Founder, Renee Cangemi. "We are actively pursuing sponsors to help underwrite the event such as t-shirts, refreshments, awards, etc. We have several sponsorship levels available." said Cangemi.
