More foster, adoption homes needed in area

Feb. 17, 2011 - An informational meeting about fostering and adopting will be hosted by Child Protective Services on Thursday, March 3, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Fannin County Children's Center at 112 West Fifth Street in Bonham.

Every year in Texas, tens of thousands of children who are abused or neglected by the people they trust come into the state's care and thousands of these children are never able to return to their birth families. More than 6,000 children are legally free for adoption and eagerly awaiting their "forever home."

 

Tarleton releases Distinguished Students list

Feb. 17, 2011 - Tarleton State University has released the Distinguished Students list for the fall 2010 semester. Students on the list include freshman and sophomore students who have a minimum 3.25 grade point ratio (GPR) and no grade lower than a 'C,' and juniors and seniors who have a minimum 3.5 GPR with no grade lower than a 'C.' All must be in good standing with the university.

Feb. 17, 2011 - The Fannin Pregnancy Care Center is offering Prenatal Care Classes as part of the new Spring Life Skills Course calendar in Bonham. Time is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays starting on Feb. 17. To enroll, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 903-640-8230. Classes are free of charge and taught by an experienced Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. They cover important information about pregnancy, delivery and childbirth. Expecting mothers are encouraged to bring their partners. Please sign up as soon as possible as space is limited.

 

 

New flood maps show current risks: Fannin County flood maps ready for release

Feb. 17, 2011 - After months of collaborative efforts, information sharing and public education, participation and review, local floodplain management officials with Fannin County, Texas and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are ready to release final flood insurance rate maps.

The new Fannin County flood maps, which include all of the communities in Fannin County, become effective on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 giving homeowners, business owners and residential renters who haven't purchased flood insurance yet, time to get the best possible premiums to protect their property from potential flooding.
