LHS senior class celebrates prom

April 21, 2011 - The 2011 Senior Class of Leonard High School celebrated their Senior Prom on April 16 at the Longhorn Hill Party Barn. Seniors arrived to enjoy time together outside as they took photos and compared dresses and tuxes for the evening. After the photo opportunity, the seniors began prom entertainment with a presentation of pictures from the past. The prom night ended with a dance for the seniors and their dates.

 

Junior High Band earns first UIL trophy in school history

April 21, 2011 - On April 12th the Junior High Band traveled to Pottsboro High School to compete in the Middle School Region 25 UIL Concert & Sight-reading competition for the first time in school history. The band played three prepared pieces for the concert portion of the contest, and then performed a piece written specifically for the contest in the sight-reading room. The band received a 2nd Division Rating (Excellent) on their stage performance, and a 1st Division Rating (Superior) in Sight-reading, bringing home the groups first UIL Trophy. - Photo courtesy of Matt Stidham

 

Tennis team competes in final matches, Rushing advancing to regional tournament

April 14, 2011 - The Leonard High School tennis team competed in the 12-AA district tennis competition on April 7 and 8. Results of that meet are as follows: freshmen Kami Parker and Maddison Mashburn placed fourth in Girls Doubles; sophomores Max Scoggins and Taylor Bishop placed third in Mixed Doubles; freshman Clayton Terry placed third in Boys Singles; sophomore Rylee Rushing placed second in Girls Singles and will advance to the Regional Tennis Meet on April 20-21.

 

LHS golf teams place fifth at district meet

April 14, 2011 - Both LHS golf teams managed a fifth-place finish last week at the District 12-2A Golf Championships.

The Leonard boys shot a 425, while Cooper won the championship at 363. Leading the way for LHS was Storm Taylor in 14th place with a round of 99, followed by Justin Bennett a stroke back at 100 in a tie for 15th. Bradley Dills shot a 112, Kade Speir finished at 114, and Cory Martin shot a 116. Other players for Leonard were Mitchell Vines, Jackson Bulloch, Cody Smallwood, Quinn Winkler, Michael St. George, and Josh Carty.

The Lady Tigers finished at 546, well back of girls champion Melissa, which fired a 408. Shelby Zumwalt of Leonard was 15th overall with her round of 131. Other LHS scores included Rosa Gomez at 135,Alex Brooks at 136, Maggie Foster at 142, Marissa Kuntz at 144, and Jordan Riley at 147.

Tigers lose two

April 14, 2011 - The varsity Tigers faced the Melissa Cardinals in a district game on Friday, April 1, in Leonard. The Tigers managed three home runs, but were unable to match the Cardinals' 20 runs and suffered a loss on their home field (20-5).

At batting, Blake Hicks had one walk; T.J. Stahley had one hit, one run, and one walk; Bradley Dills had three at-bats and had one run, one hit, one RBI and one home run; Aaron Shanks had one hit; Ty McKinney was three for three at the plate with one run, two hits, one RBI and one home run; Caleb Simmons had two runs, one hit, one walk, two RBI and one home run; Chance Whitworth had one hit.
