April 14, 2011 - The Sam Rayburn House Museum will undergo restoration work beginning in May 2011 that will last approximately ten months. The restoration will include work to the exterior of the house museum and will restore several historic architectural elements. Improvements will be made to the museum's visitor center and adjacent grounds.
As of April 5, tours are now limited to the site grounds and the visitor center while the staff prepare for the house museum restoration work. The newest visitor center exhibit, "Preserving the Speaker's Legacy: Restoration and Renovation at the Sam Rayburn House Museum," will remain open to the public during much of the project. However, once the restoration work gets underway in May the museum grounds will not be available for tours until the project is complete.
