30 YEARS AGO - APRIL 17, 1981

Tamara Diane Dearing and Donald Dean Garcia

Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Dearing, Sr. of Celeste announce the engagement of their daughter, Tamara Diane, to Donald Dean Garcia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Garcia of Wolfe City. The wedding is planned for June 19 at 6 p.m. in the home of Nolan E. Jones of Greenville. Miss Dearing is a junior at Celeste High School. Garcia is a 1978 graduate of Wolfe City High School and is employed at Hennington's in Wolfe City.

 

District Junior High girls' track meet results in abundant honors

April 14, 2011 - On March 31 the District Junior High girls track meet was held in Wolfe City. The results for the seventh grade are as follows: Team - third place; shot put - first place, Hannah Lipsey, fifth place, Sabrina Chambliss; discus - fourth place, Hannah Lipsey; long jump - third place, Jordan Compton and fifth place, Sarah Myers; triple jump - first, Jordan Compton and third Sydney Ball; high jump - second place Sarah Myers; 4x100 relay - first place, Ball, Rector, Compton and Myers; 800 meter - sixth Savannah Horton; 100 meter hurdles - fifth place, Effie Warren; 100 meter dash - second, Sierra Rector, third Jordan Compton, fifth Sydney Ball; 200 meter dash - fourth Sarah Myers

 

The Coffee Club

April 14, 2011 - Hostess for the Coffee Club meeting on April 6 was Christine Carrington. Those attending were Ruby Miller, Judy Hubbard, Frances Reynolds, Mary Jane James, Gwen Schroth, Lynda Lou Thorp and Jo Willa Pierson.

Easter pastels decorated the tables with pink tablecloths, green plates and pastel colored napkins. Small bowls filled with colorful wrapped chocolate eggs were placed down the center of the tables. Each member received a colorful plastic egg filled with delicious candies and they also enjoyed a variety of fruits.

The group was small but everyone enjoyed refreshments and fellowship.

 

Rural Technology Grant paves the way for iPads in Celeste ISD classroom

April 14, 2011 - iPads will soon make their way into the hands of CISD students. This innovative technology project was funded through the Rural Technology Grant that was awarded to the district in the fall of 2010.

Each campus will have a mobile cart of 25 iPads to use in the classroom. With a 10-hour battery, iPads are much more mobile than laptops. It features a 9.7 inch screen, weighs 1.5 pounds, and has a high-resolution display with multi-touch capability.

 

CHS Student advances to Regional UIL

April 14, 2011 - Celeste High School sophomore, Frances Wilgus, placed third in 1-A District 17 UIL Ready Writing. Frances will compete on Saturday, April 16, in Nacogdoches at the Regional UIL contest.
