National Day of Prayer service Thursday night

MAY 5, 2011 - The community of Leonard is invited to participate in the National Day of Prayer event that is held each year on May 5. Area residents are invited to come to the Leonard Square at 7 p.m. on Thursday night for a time of prayer, music, praise, and scripture sharing. Several local churches will be participating in the annual event hosted by Valley Creek Baptist Church, by performing special music. Bring a lawn chair and join this time of prayer for our nation, state, city and town. Brian Hawkins will be the speaker for the event.

 

Valley Creek Baptist hosting special Mother's Day service

MAY 5, 2011 - Valley Creek Baptist Church will have a special Mother's Day service on Sunday, May 9 beginning at 10:45 a.m.

Every mother present will receive a gift. They will be given to the mothers with the most children, the oldest mother and the youngest mother. After the service, a spaghetti dinner will be served by the youth department as a fundraiser for camp.

Everyone is welcome! The church is located two miles north of Leonard on FM 896.

 

Residents respond to wildfires

April 28, 2011 - A handful of Leonard residents, joined by four members of a Southern Baptist Church in Rockwall, were called by the Southern Baptists of Texas Disaster Relief (SBTDR) program to go to Strawn during the recent wildfires, feeding 1600 meals a day in this location. They were helping the Salvation Army feed the volunteer firemen and women at the Strawn Fire Station. After four days at Strawn, they were relocated to Mineral Wells. FBC carries youth to Falls Creek

April 28, 2011 - Youth from many area churches attended the annual North Texas Easter Retreat at Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center near Davis, Okla., last weekend. First Baptist Church of Leonard youth pastor, Dewey Watson, and his wife, Glenda, organize the camp and reported that FBC sent 74 this year. Jason Dyke - an evangelist who has become popular among area churches for his enthusiastic and pointed preaching - was speaker and music was led by Michael Bridges and band. Total attendance for the entire retreat this year was 1120, with 453 people attending from churches in Fannin county alone. Watson reported there were 66 salvations and 78 that said they wanted a closer walk with the Lord, plus three people committed to full-time Christian service. - Photo courtesy of Tiffany Barker

 

 

 

FUMC's UMW hosting craft fair

April 21, 2011 - The United Methodist Women (UMW) at First United Methodist Church of Leonard are hosting a craft fair on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church fellowship hall. All funds received from hosting this craft fair will go to UMW missions benefiting women, youth and children. The church is located at the corner of Main and Houston Streets in Leonard, two blocks north of the downtown square. For more information, contact the church office at 903-587-3463.
