June 2, 2011 - On Thursday, May 19, the Fannin County Grand Jury met to review 29 cases presented for their consideration, and all were true billed or indicted. Of the new felony charges filed, 13 involved either drugs or burglaries while six cases of assault and five DWI cases were other crimes impacting Fannin County.

In the first five months of 2011, a total of 186 new felony cases have been charged in Fannin County.

June 2, 2011

• An officer on routine patrol observed the headlights of a semi truck parked at a business to be on at 2:25 a.m. on May 24. The officer performed a security check of the business, which came up with nothing. The vehicle was found to be unoccupied and unlocked, so the officer turned the headlights off.
• An out-of-state resident contacted police on May 24 after his daughter had been seen at a residence he owned in Leonard, though she had been forbidden to be there. The owner was advised that it was a civil matter since the daughter had lived there previously.
• A homeowner called police on May 25 after observing a man staying in the garage area without permission from the owner. The officer made contact with the man and advised him that the owners wantedhim to leave and not return, and further advised that he could not just go into any garage or house that he wanted. A criminal trespass warning was issued against the man for the location.
• A Leonard officer responded to the area of State Highway 78 and State Highway 160 to assist Fannin County and Collin County Sheriff's Deputies with a search on May 27 at 10:20 p.m. The officer searched for 20-30 minutes, but was unable to locate anybody on foot matching the description given.
• Two Leonard officers responded to the Trenton city limits on May 27 at 11:10 p.m. to assist one of their officers with a felony traffic stop. The Trenton officer had a suspect in custody when the Leonard officers arrived.
• An officer issued citations to a resident on May 29 for alcohol-related offenses stemming from a routine traffic stop. The officer stopped the vehicle after it left the roadway on Short Street and then returned to the roadway. The officer noticed the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The suspect advised he had been drinking earlier in the evening and that there were open containers in the car that he would release to the officer. The officer interviewed all five occupants of the vehicle, but none were found to be intoxicated. Citations for open container and public intoxication were issued.
• An officer was dispatched to a residence on Pecan Street after an assault had taken place. Reports show that the victim, a 21-year-old female, had an argument with her boyfriend and told him to leave. The argument escalated and the boyfriend got physical, grabbing the victim by the throat and throwing her on the couch. The man then grabbed her throat and covered her mouth, causing her to lose consciousness. When the woman awoke, she was in another room. The boyfriend quickly left the residence. The victim had several bruises on her forehead, chin and neck and a bite mark on one of her fingers.
• Officers took a burglary report from two Collin Street residents on May 29. Reports show that the complainants, who were boyfriend and girlfriend, left their residence to go to the lake on Saturday. When they returned on Sunday, they found many items missing. The couple reported that there were only two people who knew they would be gone for an extended amount of time.
• An officer was dispatched to a location on Travis Street after a disturbance had been reported. The officer made contact with two occupants - a male and female - who advised that they were laughing at their new puppy and got carried away, but were not arguing.
• A Leonard officer assisted Leonard Volunteer Fire Department with setting up a landing zone at the LHS baseball field on May 29 at 9:50 p.m. after a resident needed transport by air ambulance.
