MAY 5, 2011

Dear Leonard Graphic,

I want to thank your publication people for running a story on the jury trial that I was faced with after enduring two years of waiting to clear my name.

On June 16 of 2009, I, Charlcene Walker, was arrested and charged with a second degree felony, injury to a child by negligent supervision.

My three-year-old granddaughter was attacked by a pitt bull on my property. The incident was a freak accident that was, in itself, traumatic enough.

Letter to the Editor: Adults must find same courage as children victimized by abuse

MAY 5, 2011 - Thanks to Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas, the word "courage" is increasingly associated with the fight against child abuse. Child advocates serving on the front lines of the state's battle to prevent abuse have long recognized the need for courage as they labor tirelessly to protect young victims. But no courage is more difficult to muster than that shown by a child who summons the strength to speak out against an abuser. As adults, however, we cannot possibly expect children to find this courage if we do not ourselves have the courage to openly discuss this terrible crime.

  • A Leonard officer assisted Fannin County on April 18 at 5:30 p.m. after a deputy had stopped a vehicle following a pursuit and requested a backup officer. The deputy was north of Trenton, but no Trenton officer was on duty. While in route, the Leonard officer observed via radio traffic that the deputy was not responding to dispatch. Upon arrival, it was determined that the deputy's radio was not working properly and he was okay.

Dear editor,

We would like to say thank you VERY much for all the support given to the Chamber's Easter Bake Sale fundraiser for the fireworks. It was a HUGE success, raising over $700. As always, the community stepped up to the occasion and we had successful results because of it!
