Locals to play Thursday in CAC's summer garden series

May 26, 2011 - The Creative Arts Center's Music in the Garden series will feature local favorites Lanny Joe Burnett and guitarist Royce Smithy, on May 26. The pair will provide a concert of cowboy poetry and music, followed by fiddler Brent Frailicks and his band, featuring guitar, upright bass, banjo, fiddle and mandolin. Concert sponsors are Lone Star Ag Credit and Town and Country Animal Hospital.

May 26, 2011 - 2nd Time Around Thrift store recently moved into their new location at 403 North Main Street. Long time Bonham residents will remember the building as the Leatherwood's Men's Store. This building has been donated for the use of Second Time Around by owners Robert and Virginia Bowen.

Savvy shoppers will find first-rate bargains of all kinds at the Second Time Around Thrift Store. This historical, spacious building offers second-hand furniture, antiques, glassware, shoes, clothing, decorations, small appliances, unusual and one of a kind items. York Foundation gives to Children's Center

May 19, 2011 - Stephen Murden (left) and Mark Posey (right) from Wise Funeral Home presented a check for $1,000 to the Sandy Barber (center) with the Fannin County Children's Center. This gift from the York Children's Foundation will be used to purchase kids' clothing and office supplies. Some of the funds will also be used to pay for counseling sessions for children who are recovering from abuse or neglect.

"We are so grateful to the York Children's Foundation for this generous gift and to Wise Funeral Home for writing the letter of support we needed to qualify for this grant," said Barber. "We appreciate their faithful giving which has totaled $7,200 over the last eight years for critical support services for the abused, neglected and needy children of Fannin County."

Red Cross hosting Babysitter Boot Camp

May 19, 2011 - The American Red Cross, Texoma Area Chapter, is sponsoring a Babysitter's Boot Camp June 9 and 10 at the Family Life Center in Bonham.

Classes are for boys and girls ages 10-14 years old. They will gain the skills and confidence to be the best babysitters they can be. Skills learned include supervision of children, first aid, child care, discipline, injury prevention, creative play and more.

Registration is $20, which includes lunch, books and tee shirt. Class starts at 8:30 a.m. and goes to 5 p.m. The class will be limited to the first 40 recruits, first registered and paid.

May 19, 2011 - Saturday night, May 7th, marked the 10-year anniversary celebration for the Creative Arts Center in Bonham. The beautiful garden at the ranch of Bob and Kay Carrel made a perfect setting for the Shrimp Peel Celebration.

Shrimp, festive beads, and lively music kicked off a spectacular evening of fun and great food. Folks from all over gathered to pay tribute to the Creative Arts Center and its effect on Fannin County and the City of Bonham.
