Capitol Watch 433: Bills Passed

May 12, 2011 - As of this writing, there are only 23 days left in the 82nd Legislative Session. Bills are moving through the legislative process, and a few have been finally passed. This week, I will discuss a few bills of importance that have received final passage and have been sent to the governor.

 

Wells wins FCRW bookmark contest

May 12, 2011 - Madeline Wells, an eighth grade student at L.H. Rather Middle School, received a cash award for her first place entry in the "Get HookedRead A Book" bookmark contest sponsored by The Fannin County Republican Women, PAC. A reception was held for the winner and participants on Saturday, May 7, at the Creative Arts Center. During the reception, the winner autographed copies of her entry.

 

GCC Jazz Combo wows CAC's Music in the Garden crowd, talented entertainers on schedule for Thursday

May 12, 2011 - Director James Dering and the Grayson County College Jazz Combo opened the 3rd Annual Music in the Garden spring concert series at the Creative Arts Center (CAC) Thursday, May 5, with a tremendous night of Jazz. Classics and innovative new versions of Jazz favorites were excellently performed. Dering thrilled the audience with a piano piece as well and the three pianists played a fun, entertaining piece together, showcasing their talent and excellent timing.

 

Two fundraising events will benefit the Ladonia VFD

May 12, 2011 - The Ladonia Volunteer Fire Department is having fundraisers to raise money for the purchase of new equipment, supplies and training.

The first event is a garage sale planned for this Saturday, May 14, at the LVFD, located at 203 Paris Street in Ladonia. The sale will be open to the public starting at noon. People who wish to donate goods for this event may drop them off at Ladonia City Hall or Ladonia VFD Station. People looking to purchase garage sale items can stop by the fire Station anytime Saturday between noon and early evening.

 

Extension agents hosting small grains field day Thursday

May 12, 2011 - A "Small Grains Field Day" educational event for area producers will be held at research plots near Farmersville and the Leonard High School Ag Science Building on Thursday, May 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch provided. Several Extension Specialists and Texas AgriLife Research Scientists will present the latest information on small grains research. Informational speakers will present update information on activities of the Wheat Board, Wheat Market Outlook, and update on Herbicides and Weed control. Three CEU's will be offered those that have a Pesticide Applicators License. There is no cost to attend; however, registration by Monday, May 9, was required to secure a meal and presentation handouts. Contact the Collin County Extension office at (972) 548-4233 or the Fannin County Extension office at (903) 583-7453 to pre-register.
