Leonard Police Department Reports

A resident called police on April 5 after finding out that several males were at a residence on Grayson Street stripping copper wiring. The officer made contact with the men and detained them, but were unable to find out where the wire came from.
A Leonard officer assisted a Bonham officer with serving a criminal trespass warning against a Willow Street resident on April 5. The warning was for a property in Bonham.
An officer from Leonard was called to assist a Trenton officer with an unruly person that was detained during a traffic stop. During the call, the subject in handcuffs kicked both the Leonard and Trenton officer. The Leonard officer was later advised that the subject was charged with burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony; two assaults of a public servant; a third degree felony; resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor; and public intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.
A disturbance was reported on April 5 at 9:30 p.m. on Sycamore Street. Reports show that several actors were involved and one alleged that another person involved had drawn a gun on him. After investigating, the man who pulled the weapon was not prosecuted, per request of the person on which the weapon was pulled. A citation for disorderly conduct was issued to one of the actors.
A resident on Collin Street called police on April 6 to report the spare tire out of the back of his truck had been stolen, and to give the responding officer an ear full about how he doesn't feel like the police department does their job. The officer took down the information about the missing tire, referred the man to the chief for complaints about the department, and cleared the scene.
Two male residents called police on April 6 at 4 p.m. to report another female resident, who had allegedly tried to hit them with her vehicle. The officer made contact and discovered the female was the ex-girlfriend of one of the men involved. She was contacted and advised that she would leave the man and his friend alone.
An officer arrested a 37-year-old Leonard man during a routine traffic stop on April 6 at 5:50 p.m. after he was discovered to have six outstanding warrants from Fannin County.
A Poplar Street resident filed a harassment report on April 7 on a Greenville man. The complainant alleged that the man will not leave the complainant's mother alone and constantly texts, e-mails, calls and follows her. The man was contacted and he advised he had not done any of the things he was being accused of, but he alleged the complainant was the one doing the things. He stated he would speak with officers at a later date about the matter.
An officer was dispatched to a major accident on State Highway 78 on April 8 at 7:30 a.m. Reports show that a east-bound 2003 Chevrolet pickup driven by a 44-year-old Leonard man left the roadway as it neared Westlake Drive. The vehicle took out a Stop sign at the intersection, went airborne, landed and rolled on its side. The driver complained of back and neck pain and was taken by Bonham EMS to Medical Center of McKinney for treatment. A Main Street resident called police on April 7 after an unwanted person had come to the residence and started causing problems. A criminal trespass warning was issued against the suspect, per request of the complainant.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Pecan Street after four teenagers from Bonham and Whitewright were caught vandalizing a vehicle parked at the home. The victim recognized the suspects and called police to report the incident.
An officer was dispatched to an accident on FM 272, but transferred the case to Fannin County after it was discovered to be outside the Leonard city limits. The officer was later contacted by dispatch advising that the wrecker from the scene had stopped at a convenience store to get gas and the owner of the vehicle had pulled in and was trying to get contents out while still on the wrecker, which is not allowed. The deputy from the accident also responded to the scene and advised the owner that he couldn't get any items out of the vehicle. He further issued a citation to the owner for leaving the scene of an accident.
A runaway teenager was found in Leonard on April 9 at 6 p.m. during a routine traffic stop. An officer observed a vehicle near an abandoned business and conducted a traffic stop. The 16-year-old male passenger was discovered to be a runaway out of Dallas County. He was taken to the police department where his parents later arrived to pick him up.
An 18-year-old resident filed an assault report on April 10. The complainant told officers that as he was walking home from a friend's house between 1:30 and 2 a.m., several occupants of a white vehicle got out and assaulted him several times, causing him to reportedly pass out. After coming to, the teen walked to the police department to file a report, but was unable to find an officer at the location.
A driver filed a report on April 10 after several buckets had flown out of the bed of the truck in front of the complainant, and hit his vehicle. The suspect vehicle was located at a Leonard restaurant and the driver confirmed that he did have buckets in the back of his truck from feeding his cattle. The officer obtained the owner's information.
An officer was dispatched to a location on Highway 69 to check the welfare of a female resident on April 10. The officer was able to make contact with the woman and advised her to call her daughter. She advised that she was on the phone with her daughter at that time.
Officers took a stolen vehicle report from a resident on April 10 at 7:05 p.m. The complainant advised that his red Ford truck was missing out of his driveway, and he last saw it there on April 9 at 6 p.m. The man advised that he had called his sons to make sure they hadn't borrowed it, and they advised they had not. He further advised that the keys were locked in it because he had a keyless entry system, and it also contained an old computer, straps, chains and some gas cans. Officers were contacted by Dallas Police Department on April 12 who advised the vehicle had been found abandoned on Central Expressway. The vehicle was impounded until evidence could be collected for the theft.
