April 28, 2011 - On Thursday, April 21, the Fannin County Grand Jury met to review 47 cases presented for their consideration, and returned all of them as listed below. Of the new felony charges filed, 19 involved either drugs or burglaries while five cases of sexual assault and ten cases of forgery, theft or credit card abuse were other crimes impacting Fannin County.

In the first four months of 2011, a total of 157 new felony cases have been charged in Fannin County. Criminal District Attorney Richard E. Glaser reports that if Fannin County law enforcement continues to file cases at this pace, it will result in a 60 percent increase over felonies charged in Fannin County during the years 2009 and 2010. Despite the increase, Richard Glaser expressed confidence that his office and the District Court will work hard to keep up with the increased agency filings.

The law enforcement agencies filing cases were as follows: Fannin County Sheriff's Office - 16 cases; Bonham Police Department - 14 cases; Criminal District Attorney's Office - 9 cases; Ladonia Police Department - 4 cases; Leonard Police Department - 2 cases; Savoy Police Department - 1 case; and Department of Public Safety - 1 case.

It is important to note that an indictment is a formal charge and should not in itself be considered an indication of guilt. All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The following people were indicted for the criminal offense and range of punishment indicated:
