Jan. 27, 2011 - Funeral services for Gene Brewer, 82, of McKinney were held Monday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, with Rev. Wayne Hutchins officiating. Interment followed at East Shady Grove Cemetery in Trenton. He passed away Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011.
Brewer was born on Nov. 12, 1928, in Whitewright, to Lacy Clifton and Mary Magdalene (Burchfield) Brewer. On Sept. 15, 1949, he married Naomi Kathryn Partridge in Leonard. Brewer proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a graduate of Greer Engineering Institute and following graduation, he accepted a job with the Ford Motor Company, where he worked for eight years. Subsequently, he worked for the Wonder Bread Company for 22 years. Brewer loved his family, his dogs, and his country. He was an avid gardener and always supplied his neighbors with ample vegetables, and beautiful flowers to view, before his health started to decline.
Brewer is survived by his wife, Naomi Kathryn Brewer; daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and James Welch of McKinney and Nancy Gene and Larry Thompson of Dallas; grandchildren, Danny Craig and wife, Johnna, Steven Craig and wife, Melissa, Paula Kent and husband, John, and John Gillaspy; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kayla and Olivia Craig, and Benjamin and Emily Kent; brothers, James, Horace, Claude and William Brewer; sisters, Virginia Gillhamer, Maryann Oleander, Madelle Childress, and Linda Shipp; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Charles Brewer.
