Bear Creek hosting workshop for horse owners

April 14, 2011 - Bear Creek Country Store in Leonard will host a Horse Owner's Workshop on Tuesday, April 26, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the store. Topics for the evening will be "Helping Your Horse Training" with Jacob "Spook" Wiggins, "Basic Equine Nutrition" with Dr. Doug Hawkins and "Tack Talk" with Alan Bell.

 

Leonard Manor celebrates birthdays, plans special events for volunteers and Easter

April 14, 2011 - Leonard Manor residents recently celebrated Ruth Johnson's birthday by having a luncheon with the Leonard Follies Red Hatters. Bess Glasscock spoke to the ladies about the times in the past when she was activity director at the Manor. She brought pictures and spoke on the Red Hat Ladies and trips she and her friends had taken with their group.

 

Leonard girl wins awards at Greenville pageant

April 14, 2011 - Melissa Williams of Leonard participated in the Sunburst Beauty Pageant at Crossroads Mall in Greenville on Sunday, April 10, and came away with several individual awards and an overall trophy. Melissa was presented awards for Most Photogenic, Best Attire, Prettiest Eyes and Top Model Face and was runner-up overall in her age group. Melissa is a first grade student at Leonard Elementary and is the daughter of Craig and Amanda Williams of Leonard. She is currently working to move on to the next pageant in Houston.

 

Webelos earn badge at state park

April 14, 2011 - Imagine being offered this deal: In exchange for undergoing some minor indignity (say, going to lunch dressed in a leopard-print leisure suit) you could drastically lower your risk of premature death. Chances are, most of us would take that deal in a heartbeat.

And yet, simple embarrassment is a big reason why many Texans avoid potentially life-saving colonoscopies and other colorectal cancer exams. Another common -- and just as poor -- excuse is the overhyped physical discomfort of these procedures.
